London councils ask for anything from 3 working days to more than two weeks’ notice for a parking bay suspension, and the rules change at the borough boundary. Bexley, Bromley and Ealing ask for the shortest notice at 3 working days. Camden advises 17 days, Waltham Forest’s terms say 14 days, and Islington and Haringey ask for two weeks. If you’re moving between boroughs, go by the longer of the two.
We put this table together so you can find your council’s rule in one place. We checked each council’s own website in November 2026, but rules change, so always confirm with your council before you apply. For how suspensions work, see our guide to parking suspensions for moving day in London.
The quick answer: apply three weeks ahead
Three weeks before your move covers every notice period we could confirm in the table below, with time left to fix a problem. Notice periods are the minimum, not a target, and many councils count working days, so bank holidays push your deadline earlier. Late applications can be refused.

Moving between two boroughs?
Each address follows its own council’s rules, so you may need two applications with two deadlines. Work backwards from your moving date using the longer notice period, and apply to both councils at the same time.
Working days or calendar days?
Check the wording. Most councils in the table count working days, so weekends and bank holidays don’t count. A few work differently: Hammersmith and Fulham counts Saturdays and Sundays as notice days. If you’re moving around Christmas or a bank holiday, allow extra time.
What to have ready before you apply
- the address and exact bays you need
- the date and times, with room for an early start and a late finish
- the vehicle details from your removal company
- the number of bays, which your removal company can confirm after the survey
- a plan or marked photo, as some councils ask for one
Frequently asked questions
Which London council needs the most notice?
Of the councils we could confirm, Camden advises the longest, at 17 days. Waltham Forest’s terms say 14 days, and Islington and Haringey ask for two weeks.
Which London councils need the least notice?
Bexley, Bromley and Ealing ask for at least 3 working days. That’s a minimum, so apply earlier if you can.
Can I get a suspension at short notice?
Sometimes. Lambeth has short-notice options but can’t guarantee them. Kingston asks you to phone if you need one within 5 days, and Hackney and Tower Hamlets may consider late requests. Don’t rely on it.
Do I always need a suspension to move house?
No. It depends on your street. Islington and Kensington and Chelsea both say many domestic removals don’t need one, so check your council’s page first. Our guide to parking suspensions for moving day explains when you do.
Will my removal company arrange it?
K1 Removals does. We check whether you need a suspension at either address on the survey and help you apply. For more on what to book and when, see our London moving house checklist.
