Removals to France from London & the UK
Removals to France, From Your Door to Your New Home
K1 Removals handles removals to France from London and anywhere in the UK, door to door. We pack and load your home, your goods travel by road across the Channel, and they are delivered to your new address in France. We have been moving people for more than 10 years. Every move starts with a free survey, in person or by video, followed by a clear written quote.
France is close enough to drive to, but since Brexit a move there is an import. Your furniture has to clear French customs, and the paperwork has to match what is on the vehicle. We plan that with you before anything leaves the house, so you know what happens at each stage and who is handling it.

Dedicated vehicle or part load to France?
The right choice depends on how much you are moving and how fixed your dates are. We will talk you through both at the survey and give you realistic timings with your quote.
- Dedicated vehicle: Your belongings only, collected and delivered on the dates you agree. This suits a whole home or a fixed completion date.
- Part load: Your goods share a vehicle heading to France with other customers’ goods. This suits smaller moves and people with some flexibility, as delivery works to a schedule.
- Storage first: If your French home isn’t ready, your goods can wait in the UK until it is.
- More than one delivery: French customs lets goods arrive in stages, as long as everything is listed on the inventory at the first customs crossing.
Buying in France often means waiting for a date at the notaire, and those dates can move. Tell us early and we will plan around it, with storage in the UK if you need it.

Moving Your Household Goods into France
The UK is outside the EU, so household goods entering France go through customs. If you are moving your main home, you can usually bring them in free of duty and VAT under transfer of residence relief. French customs sets the conditions, and these are the ones that matter most.
The conditions
- You have lived outside the EU for at least 12 months.
- You have owned and used the goods for at least six months.
- You bring them in within 12 months of settling in France.
- You don’t sell, rent, lend or pledge them for 12 months after they arrive.
The paperwork
You need a detailed inventory, with estimated values, dated and signed, in two copies. You also need declaration cerfa 10070 and proof that you lived outside the EU and are moving to France. Customs returns a certified copy of the inventory, so keep it safe.
Moving to a second home
This relief is for your main home. French customs does not allow it for furnishing a second home, so duty, VAT and other taxes apply to the whole load. If you are buying a holiday home, tell us at the survey and check your position with French customs before you book.
What the relief does not cover
Alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and stocks of goods are excluded, and so is professional equipment apart from small hand tools. Works of art, weapons, animals, plants and medicines need authorisation first.
Your right to live in France
British citizens can stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. To stay longer you must meet the French entry requirements, so sort your visa or residence permit first.
Pets need a microchip, a rabies vaccination, a 21-day wait and an animal health certificate, because a pet passport issued in Great Britain won’t get them into the EU. Pets travel with you, not on the removal vehicle.
Where We Move People in France
Paris and the big cities
Older Paris buildings often have narrow stairs and small lifts, so we ask about both at the survey. To park outside a paid parking lane in Paris, you need a temporary occupancy authorisation from the city, and it asks for the request at least 15 days before moving day.
Normandy and Brittany
These are the regions closest to the Channel. Country lanes and long drives can make it hard to get a big vehicle to the door, so tell us about the access.
Dordogne, Provence and the Riviera
A longer drive south means more planning. Village streets, hill roads and Riviera apartment blocks may need a smaller vehicle or a longer carry at the delivery end.
Tell us where you are going in France and we will plan the move around your new street and building.
Packing for the road to France
Export packing uses stronger materials and more wrapping than a local move, and everything is loaded so it cannot shift on the journey. We can pack everything or just the fragile items, and we can dismantle and rebuild furniture. See our packing services.
Packing also starts your inventory. We list what goes in each box, so you have a clear record to add your values to and sign.
Storage while you move to France
Your French home may not be ready when you leave, or your visa may take longer than planned. We offer secure short and long-term storage, so your goods can wait until you are ready. If you are claiming the relief, remember the 12-month window for bringing goods in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you help with French customs paperwork?
Yes. We guide you through what French customs asks for and start the inventory with you as we pack. You will still need to supply your own documents, such as your passport, proof of your move and the values on the inventory.
How much notice do you need?
As much as you can give. For an international move, get in touch as soon as you know your likely moving date, because packing, shipping and paperwork all take planning. We’ll always try to help with short-notice moves.
Do you offer storage?
Yes. We offer secure short and long-term storage, ideal if you’re between homes or your completion dates don’t line up.
What access do you require for your removal?
Somewhere for the van to park as close to your door as possible, and clear access inside. We’ll flag anything tricky, like stairs, lifts or narrow hallways, at the survey.
Where can I see your reviews?
Our latest Google reviews are shown on this page, and you can read more by searching for K1 Removals on Google.
Is there anything you won't move?
We can’t carry hazardous materials such as paint, fuel or gas bottles, or very large safes. If you’re unsure about an item, just ask. Alcohol, tobacco, plants and medicines also have their own rules for France, so tell us about them at the survey.
